Ultimate Guide To Fresh Homemade Pasta

If you’ve been on TikTok for long enough, you’ve probably heard of Nara Smith. She’s a model who cooks on TikTok using ingredients made from scratch, and I’ve been romanticising her life ever since. So, I thought that maybe, for a start, I should make my own pasta instead of buying it in-store, right?

There’s a misconception that fresh pasta is complicated and difficult to make. But I’m here to tell you that it’s not at all. All you need are four ingredients to make chewy, bouncy, and fresh homemade pasta.

INGREDIENTS FOR HOMEMADE PASTA

There are many recipes available online for fresh pasta with different ingredients involved. But really, it doesn’t matter. The best part about making your own pasta is that you can be creative with it – turning it into different shapes, sizes, and even incorporating various ingredients. But, the main ingredients stay the same.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3 large eggs

  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

  • ½ tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place the flour on a clean work surface and make a well in the middle for your eggs, olive oil, and salt.

2. Gently use a fork to break up the eggs while keeping the flour inward to incorporate it together.

3. Once the eggs are beaten, mix everything together with your hands. Continue to work on it until it turns into a shaggy ball.

4. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes. At first, the dough will feel a little dry, but it’s normal, so don’t add water yet! After 8-10 minutes of kneading, it should all come together. If it is still too dry, sprinkle your fingers with a tiny bit of water. If it is too sticky, sprinkle a little flour on your work surface.

5. Shape it into a ball and then wrap it in plastic wrap. Let it rest for 30 minutes.

6. While waiting, dust 2 large baking sheets with some flour and set them aside. This is for you to put your pasta on later.

7. After 30 minutes, slice the dough into 4 parts and gently flatten each one into an oval disk.

8. If you have a pasta maker machine, run the dough 3 times on the widest setting. If you do not own a pasta maker machine, continuously roll the dough until it is really flat and stretchy.

9. Set the dough sheets onto a dusted countertop or work surface. Fold both short ends to meet in the middle and fold it in half to make it into a rectangle.

10. Roll it out again until it becomes a long rectangle sheet and repeat for the remaining dough.

11. Run it through the pasta cutter or lightly fold it (make sure to sprinkle flour on every side before folding it to prevent it from sticking to each other) and cut your noodles into pasta strips. Repeat with the remaining dough.

12. Wrap it in plastic and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Ever since I found out how to make my own pasta, I haven’t been to the pasta section for quite some time. Knowing that I can explore and let out my creativity, I have been making different types of pasta like spinach capunti, gnocchetti, and more.
